Competition
Formula SAE ( SAE) is a student based engineering design competition run by the Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE). It began life in the USA over 25 years ago with just a handful of universities competing. Since then this event has grown to host over 140 teams from all around the world and led to the creation of similar competitions in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia.
It’s a competition run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. It challenges teams of university students to design, build, test and actually race a small, high performance racing car.
The competition not only involves entering the car into a series of demanding races but also requires the students to justify their design with events aimed at business, costing and marketing the car. Points are awarded for performance in each event and the team with the most point winds. The competition is very tough: deadlines must be met; performance delivered and resources used effectively.
