On 3rd Feb we failed to get a confirmed spot at FSAE Italy 2010.Since then we spent a excruciating 16 days waiting for the FS Austria registration. Today we were prepared with several team members scattered on different internet connection & we were utilizing the entire 100Mbps I-ON connection of the University… Finally we have successfully  registered for FS Austria 2010 ! !

With the winter vacations almost coming to an end , the team has taken a break for one week to celebrate the new year.

Last weekend we were visited by the 1984 batch Alumni of MIT , they visited our workshop and many of them have agreed to help us by sponsoring us financially and in kind.Cheers to the spirit of MIT !

We had another high profile visitor in Mr.Salman Khurshid (Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs), he was impressed by our 2009 car and wished us good luck for the 2010 season.We thank him for his encouragement.

The placement of the final year students is going on in full swing and the who’s who from various industries are coming to the MIT campus for recruitment .

The electrical connectors for FM-X have arrived from Germany. LEMO Elektronik GmbH, one of our first 2010 sponsors have been very kind and provided us with F1 grade push-pull type connectors for the car. Reliability of the electrical system is of utmost important (especially in rainy conditions like at Silverstone 2009) to ensure that we perform well in the dynamic events.

The college exams are now finally over and the winter vacations have begun.All the students are leaving for home but the Formula Manipal team will stay back in college for the entire winter vacations and begin manufacturing of the FM-X. The vacations are crucial time for us as we get the entire day to work unlike usual college days when we have to go to college from 8 am to 5 pm and then work the whole night.

There is more good news as we have won the 1st prize at the VI MANTRA 2009 which is a national level paper presentation competition organised by National Instruments. It attracts more than 200 entries every year which includes colleges like IITs, NITs, AIIMS and private colleges etc. This year, Formula Manipal entered the competition with a research paper describing its in-house designed and developed Data Acquisition system for its Formula Student race car.The entry was titled :”Rapid prototyping of a data acquisition system for a 600cc Formula SAE Race Car”

Formula Manipal has been featured in the November issue of Business Standards Motoring, one of the country’s most read automobile magazines. The fact that the article (writen by a team member) got the go-ahead from the editors of the magazine is a testament to the significance of the project on a national level. The article covers two pages, with one page devoted only for a large photograph of the car. This proves that we do deliver when we talk about nation-wide exposure to our sponsors. Also recently the FM09 was displayed at the Aerofest 2009 held at our college which was organized by NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories),Bangalore.Team members had a chance to learn about the latest research projects at NAL and got to interact with some of the scientists.There was a lot of discussion on aerodynamics related to race car design but was it enough to convince us to have wings for FM-X ? You’ll have to wait and find out !
