Over the last 2 weeks, the FM-X has undergone extensive testing.
Acceleration tests were carried out at Manipal University campus and then we shipped the car to Bangalore where we conducted autocross and skid-pad tests at Torq03 karting track.
We are glad to welcome our new sponsors ATS, Delhi who are providing us with sensors for our Data Acquisition System. With the help of these sensors we will be able to set-up the suspension for maximum performance at the competition. Special thanks to Mr. Ramanathan for making this possible.
The car is now back in Manipal for some finishing touches and we prepare to ship the car next week for Graz, Austria where we will be testing for one week with Joanneum Racing Graz (http://www.joanneum-racing.at/cms/).

Today we successfully conducted
the first test run of FM-X ! After a 24hr non-stop session in the workshop, we finally got the car running and the team members shouted out in joy seeing the outcome of the hard work they have put in for the last nine months. There is a lot more work to be done now to make the car competition ready and we will now be focusing on tuning the car and preparing for the cost, design and business plan events.

All the components of FM-X have been manufactured and we now start the mounting and assembly of all components. The most exciting news is that we are perfectly on track with our weight reduction plan and the car should be below the target weight of 250 kgs. Thats more than 100 kgs lighter than last year!
The team showed great teamwork over the last two weeks to complete the deadline of the rolling the chassis. Therefore there is no one single “Team member of the month” for May. Over the next few weeks the bodywork and engine tuning will be completed and we’ll be ready to start testing. Wish us luck !

For the last 15 days all the team members were busy giving exams. But in the meanwhile we received various components like the uprights, differential mountings for our CNC sponsor High Calibre CNC Centre, Bangalore. Mr.Mani V (Director, High Calibre CNC Centre) has been supportive of the project and has helped us despite his tight production schedule, we really want to thank him very much.
Imported components such as the AP racing brake calipers and Taylor-Race halfshafts have also arrived and FM-X will be on its four wheels soon.
The team will now be staying in college for the entire summer vacation working on the car and work starts in full swing starting NOW !

We would like to introduce you
to our most friendly sponsor – Mr.Venkatesh Pai of Flamepack, Manipal. He has been assisting us with CNC machining of many components. In 2009, we had carried out the machining of one of the most critical components- the 20mm intake air restrictor with his help. This year he has been even more generous and machined many suspension components also. We would like to thank him for the many hours he has spent machining our components and guiding us.

We had decided in

the starting of the season that every component in FM-X has to not only function perfectly but it should also add to the aesthetic appeal of the car. So we had our bell cranks, steering wheel centre and some wheel assembly components laser cut and water-jet machined with the help of our sponsors, Magod Laser. With this technology we have been able to cut complicated profiles, save material and most importantly save time.
We would like to thank Magod Laser for their support.

Over the last few weeks two important events took place. Firstly, we had the driver selection for FM-X at Torq03 Go-karting, Bangalore (http://www.torq03.com) track. They have been very kind to provide us with their facility and some good driving advice. Special thanks to Chetan, Harsha and Anish for all the help and encouragement. It was a tough competition as team members tried to improve their lap time in every heat and the top 6 selected drivers had less than a second separating them.
We then attended the Bangalore International Automotive Expo from 11th – 14th March and FM09 was on display at the event. It was an awesome experience to interact with so many people and tell them about the project. A big thanks to all who came over to our stall.
